Decree Cum Proximo Anno
On the Feast of St. Joseph in 1967
Issued 13 May 1966
Sacred Congregation of Rites
Next year, 1967, the feast of St. Joseph, Husband of the Blessed Virgin
Mary, Confessor, and Patron of the Universal Church would have to be transferred
from 19 March to 3 April according to the rules of the rubrics, because
the Second Sunday of Passiontide (Palm Sunday) falls on 19 March. Therefore
many local Ordinaries have petitionsed this Congregation of Rites for the
celebration of the feast of St. Joseph on 18 March.
At an audience granted 9 May 1966 to the undersigned Cardinal Prefect
of the Congregation for a report on the matter, Pope Paul VI has acceded
to the petitions and decreed that next year, 1967, the office and Mass
of St. Joseph, Husband of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Confessor, and Patron
of the Universal Church are to be celebrated on 18 March; in other respects
the rubrics remain unchanged.
